Charlton Youth Basketball

7th & 8th Grade Divisions

(updated: 11/09/2004)

Description

The 7th and 8th grade girls and boys participate in separate divisions.  These divisions feature real games, referees, and scorekeeping.  The basic  fundamental basketball skills will continue to be taught including shooting, passing, dribbling, ball handle, etc.  More advanced skills will be reinforced such as rebounding and boxing out, foul shooting, and pivoting.  Additional game situations will continue to be emphasized such as offensive plays, in-bounding plays, trapping, jump balls, etc.  Advanced rules of the game will continue to be stressed.

Games consist of two halves of 20 minutes duration each.  The game clock runs continuously except for timeouts.  During the last 2 minutes of the half and the last two minutes of the game, the clock will be stopped when the whistle is blown.  Foul shots will be awarded when the limit  for the quarter is reached.

League rules require coaches to provide equitable playing time to all players.  Substitutions are allowed at any time when play has stopped.  Coaches are encouraged to provide constructive instruction to the players watching from the bench as well as to those playing on the floor.  As with all divisions, teamwork and sportsmanship will be stressed.
